The 3rd Introductory meeting

The third Introductory meeting of the MANTIS project will be held in Split, Croatia on the 25th of May 2017.The meeting will be organised by the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries together with WWF Adria and WWF Italy. The Mantis project investigates how a network of marine managed areas (MMAs) can contribute to improve sustainable fisheries the Central Mediterranean, focusing on the Strait of Sicily and the Northern Adriatic. Stakeholder’s knowledge and opinion is paramount to identify priority areas in need of management and appropriate measures. Thus, the meeting aims to bring together researchers, decision making authorities and stakeholders whose activity depend upon the fisheries resources of the Adriatic.

The objectives of the meeting are:
  • introduce the project to all relevant stakeholders, whose activity depend upon the fisheries resources of the Adriatic Sea
  • to gather fishers traditional ecological knowledge on the distribution of essential fish habitat for 4 target species of Northern and Central Adriatic Hake, Mullet, Sole and Norway lobster - Merluccius merluccius, Mullus barbatus, Solea solea and Nephrops novergicus respectively)
  • to gather local stakeholders suggestions on best management actions to improve stocks and fisheries conditions for the target species in Central Adriatic Sea-GSA17
