Laboratory for benthos

Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries

Laboratory for benthos is a  team of six scientists: the director (Prof. Boris Antolić), two research fellows (Dr. Ivana Grubelić and Dr. Ante Žuljević) one post-doc (Dr. Marija Despalatović) and two junior scientists, PhD-students (Ivan Cvitković and Vedran Nikolić). Find out more about us on the people page.

Our group carries out research on marine macroalgae (red, brown and green algae), seagrasses and various groups of marine invertebrates (echinoids, molluscans, sponges, meiofauna). Research topics are taxonomy, phytosociology, zoosociology and biogeography. The main part of our research centers on the marine flora and fauna of the central Adriatic Sea. We also carry out projects that involve monitoring of coastal benthic communities, impact studies and invasive Caulerpa species. The research section allows you to find out more about our present and past research. The publications section offers an overview of our publications.
