A national monitoring programme to assess genetic stability in native seabream Sparus aurata and seabass Dicentrarchus labrax populations is needed to implement conservation measures, as farmed fish continue to escape into the wild.

This project activity represents an attempt to build a genetic baseline of wild and farmed strains from the eastern Adriatic that is needed to establish a seabream and seabass DNA register of population allele frequencies and multi-locus genotypes for the identification of individuals.
