POSTER PRESENTED AT THE 23rd INTERNATIONAL PECTINIDAE WORKSHOP

Dr Ivan Župan participated at the international conference devoted solely to scallop research that took place in Isle of Man, UK. He presented a poster with a title „Age and growth studies of scallop species living in the Mediterranean Sea – a review of methods, findings and opportunities for sclerochronology research“.

Poster presentation at Adriatic Mariculture conference

Dr Peharda presented a poster at the 1st scientific expert meeting on mariculture in the Adriatic Sea – Adriatic Mariculture , that took place in Zadar. It was a great opportunity to talk with collegues as well as aquaculture producers about results of the BiVACME project related to Mytilus galloprovincialis aquaculture.

Interactive workshop in elementary school

Dr Daria Ezgeta-Balić delivered an interactive workshop on bivalves to children in Bijači elementary school, Kaštela. They talked about bivalve diversity, ecology and growth of different species, as well as sclerochronology research conducted in a framework of BiVACME project.

UNDERGRADUATE THESIS DEFENSE

Niko Bujas successfully defended his thesis “Age structure and growth of bivalve Unio crassus in different environmental conditions” at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Zagreb. His research was dealing with growth patterns of endangered freshwater bivalve species. Samples were collected in a framework of the HRZZ project METABIOM (PI Zrinka Dragun), while samples were analysed in a framework of our BIVACME project.

INVITED LECTURE AT INSPIREADRIATIC2023

BiVACME PI Melita Peharda Uljević and BiVACME team member Hrvoje Mihanović were invited speakers at the international scientific symposium Interdisciplinary Approach to Scientific Research of the Adriatic Sea (InspireAdriatic 2023) that took place at the Ruđer Bošković Institute. The title of Melita’s talk was “Sclerochronology research in the Adriatic Sea – what can we learn from bivalve shells?”, while Hrvoje delivered a talk with a title “Measurements in physical oceanography, an important aspect of interdisciplinary marine research”.

European Researchers' Night

As a part of Blue-connect project, Reconnecting Science with the Blue Society, Hana Uvanović and Melita Peharda Uljević delivered interactive workshops to two elementary schools in Kaštela, Elementary school Bijaći and Elementary school Kneza Trpimira. They talked about bivalves – their diversity and ecology – and presented the results of research conducted in a framework of the BiVACME project.
