Biodiversity and Conservation

Biodiversity is the variety and variability of life on Earth and is typically a measure of variation at the genetic, species, and ecosystem level. If that sounds bewilderingly broad, that’s because it is. Biodiversity is the most complex feature of our planet and it is the most vital. A more philosophical way of viewing biodiversity is this: it represents the knowledge learned by evolving species over millions of years about how to survive through the vastly varying environmental conditions Earth has experienced. Without biodiversity, there is no future for humanity. Conservation biology is an applied science based on ecological principles that focuses on how to protect and restore biological diversity or degraded ecosystems.
